Although (at just over four hundred pages), it’s slightly longer than the average videogame tie-in novel, it never really feels too bloated and it can easily be read in about four or five hours.Įven though it slowed down for a while about halfway through (and got very slightly repetitive), “Dead Space: Martyr” is the kind of suspenseful and thrilling page-turner which you probably will want to devote four of five hours to as soon as you’ve read the first few pages. One of the first things I will say about “Dead Space: Martyr” is that it is incredibly readable. Even though the man on the other end of the phone sounds too worried to talk for long on the phone, he arranges to meet Altman in a local cantina and tell him more about what he knows about the mysterious signal coming from the middle of the crater…… However, when he starts asking around about this, very few of his fellow scientists know anything about the pulse and those that have noticed it are equally baffled by it.īut, a while later, he recieves a mysterious anonymous phone call by someone who claims to have more information about the crater. Meanwhile, a scientist called Michael Altman is working on a geological survey near the Chicxulub crater and he has noticed a series of mysterious pulses emerging from the centre of the crater. To Chava’s surprise, the bruja recognises the creature and, after telling him some old legends about Ixtab (the goddess of suicide) and various other things, she helps him to prepare a flaming torch and tells him that the only way to kill the unnatural creature is by burning it…. Surprised by this inhuman, bloated beast, the boy summons some people from the nearby town – including the local bruja (wise woman). “Dead Space: Martyr” takes place at some point in the future and the story begins when a young boy called Chava discovers a strange creature on the shore of the Chicxulub Crater in southern Mexico. Plus, the cover art looks really cool too.
